| I'm not the top contester I'm sure, but better than nothing...
- VE2DSB
Thanks for your continuing promotion of meteor scatter!! - W0IOH Didn't get as much time to play as I would have liked. Also, no power here that Mon morning when I got up :-( - KC6ZWT Fun contest, conditions very good. Didn't get to operate as much as I had planned, but at least lovely power line noise stayed gone most of time. - K4YMQ Didn't get to operate much this time, but still had some fun. - N0PB A big thanks to WA5UFH, N6ENU, W5WVO, and WB2FKO for putting the contest together! This was the first M/S contest that I have been able to work in a while. I still wasn't able to put the time into it, that I wanted. I still had a lot of fun. I was able to complete with N3TH, who lives near my old home town. The highlight was working K0AWU/1188 miles on 222MHz in 17 minutes, using 100 watts. Thanks to everyone for the QSOs.. See you on PJ - W3UUM I never thought I could work all stations random and it was a challenge. Conditions were great Friday night and Saturday EST but disappointed Sunday night activity was almost dead or meteors were not as good as predicted. I wonder if the time of peak was incorrect? - K8MD I somewhat reluctantly send in this entry, as the contest was not a pleasant experience for me. Very few random operators (just like Random Hour the past year), and my usual problem of very few people within meteor scatter range to work from this extreme southern Arizona location. I don't have any alternatives for you at the moment, but I'm sure not a fan of the "mileage scoring" idea - might be fine in Europe where MANY stations, grids and countries are all active within easy range. Unfortunately, all the simple scoring schemes (such as time zones, mileage) lead to very "location sensitive" results - i.e. somebody in the east, central (north to south) part of the Mountain Time Zone has the Midwest, Southeast, Pacific Northwest, and California population centers and operators to draw on; whereas, someone in the southwest part of that Mountain zone basically has only California to work. This effect may not be so pronounced in the eastern half or two-thirds of the country, but it sure is the dominant factor in the sparsely populated West. Not a simple nut to crack for sure, but at least last year's scoring scheme (and more random operators) made me feel like I had a fighting chance. - KS7S This was my first MS contest and had a blast doing it. Think I worked everyone I heard and/or scheduled with. Missed some of the regulars. Don't know if I just missed them or if they weren't on. Looking forward to the next contest. - AA5AM I believe the scoring system needs to be re-examined. It's pretty discouraging when a station in my time zone has access to the same stations as I do but can almost double their score by working the same station. Something wrong with that picture. I refuse to participate in contests where I haven't a chance of a snowball in hell of being competitive. With the scoring based on the number of contacts and grids worked I can be competitive and so can everyone else. - W6OUU Thank you and the other organizers for the effort to initiate this contest which I think was responsible for increased activity. I had a lot of fun operating casually. I really like the grid reports format and the Geminids shower was perfect timing for the contest. I heard a lot of really nice, long pings, some > 7 Sec in duration on 2-meters. These are always a thrill to hear! - WB3BEL Thanks for the contest. Lots of fun as always. With the new rules, it will be really interesting to see the results. - K0AWU No attempt to compete this year. Didn't get on in the mornings, at all. Still, I had fun. Worked one W6 station 144 MHz who had a wire antenna and 50 watts. I worked a few random contacts, but did not note them. - K7CW This was a terrific contest! There was finally a for-real meteor shower that produced lots of strong burns on 6 meters, and if what I read on PJ is any proof, on 2 meters as well. Lots of fun. I hope the new distance scoring idea gets good reviews. - W5WVO Measly number of 13 contacts, but I had fun. First time on WSJT. - KD7YZ Enjoyed the contest this year and thanks for your work! - K3RWR Mega-thanks for arranging the contest. By far the most activity I've experienced on VHF WSJT. Why the decision to allow non MS contacts? Not that I care much, either way would be fine with me. What prompted the question however, is the thought that at the top of the sun spot cycle, 6M might be open all over via F2 skip. If so, this would radically change the contest from primarily a MS contest to something else entirely. - K6EU I enjoy the challenge of random contacts, but it seemed that very few stations were actually listening to the calling frequency. Why sit on PingJockey unless your radio is on the calling frequency and WSJT is running? As far as the contest format, I think that more bonus miles for random contacts should be given. In the old contests, you got twice as many points for a random contact, why not twice as many miles? The current format seems to favor the assisted stations. - K9SQL | |
