There are many factors in sports. A popular one is The Crowd Factor (sometimes called
The Noise Factor) often referred to in cliche comments like: "The crowd is becoming a factor".
One could just as easily say: "The crowd is starting to get very loud", but this doesn't sound too impressive.
When a sports analyst or announcer points out a `factor', there is a scholarly air about it, like a professor
discussing economic factors.
Some common sports factors are:
The injury factor.
The fatigue factor.
The clock factor.
The time factor.
The wind factor.
The humidity factor.
The altitude factor.
The experience factor.
The psychological factor.
The Xfactor.
The motivation factor.
The revenge factor.
The mental factor.
...and of course "The Elway factor".
